About Split PDF
Splitting copies each page object into a new PDF with pdf-lib, the same way a desktop editor would. Fonts and images that several pages share are copied into every part that uses them, so the parts together can be a little larger than the original.
Bookmarks (the outline) are not copied into the parts. Links inside a page keep working; links that jump to a page in another part do not.
Is it private?
Yes. Split PDF runs entirely in your web browser using your device's own processor. Your files are never uploaded to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send them anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive files. Results are kept encrypted on your device for 60 minutes in Your files, then deleted automatically, or straight away with Delete all. How Nolo works.
Questions and answers
Is my PDF uploaded when I split it?
No. Nolo splits the PDF inside your browser. The file never leaves your device, and the page has no way to send it anywhere.
How do I write page ranges?
Separate the parts with commas. "1-3, 5, 8-" makes three PDFs: pages 1 to 3, page 5, and page 8 to the end.
Does splitting reduce the quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-rendering or re-compressing, so text stays sharp and searchable.
Can I get all the parts at once?
Yes. When there is more than one part, press "Download all" to get them in a single ZIP file.
I only want some pages in one file. Which tool should I use?
Use Extract PDF pages: it puts the pages you pick into one new PDF. Split PDF always makes one file per part.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
If the PDF needs a password to open, unlock it first with Unlock PDF (you need the password). PDFs that only have editing restrictions open directly.
