Data storage converter
Pick decimal units (1 GB = 1000 MB) or binary units (1 GiB = 1024 MiB) and convert instantly. A 1 TB drive holds 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, which is about 931 GiB.

How to use Data Storage Converter
- Type the amount of data.
- Choose the unit you have and the one you want (decimal kB/MB/GB or binary KiB/MiB/GiB).
- Read the answer and its formula.
- See the size in every unit in the table.
About Data Storage Converter
Decimal prefixes (k, M, G, T, P) are SI powers of 1000. Binary prefixes (Ki, Mi, Gi, Ti, Pi) were standardised by the IEC in 1998 for powers of 1024. macOS and drive makers use decimal units; Windows reports binary sizes with decimal names; RAM is always sold in binary sizes.
Is it private?
Yes. Data Storage Converter runs entirely in your web browser. What you type is never sent to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send it anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive data. Nothing is stored either: close the page and it is gone. How Nolo works.
Questions and answers
What is the difference between KB and KiB?
A kilobyte (kB) is 1000 bytes; a kibibyte (KiB) is 1024 bytes. The same applies up the scale: 1 MB = 1000² bytes, 1 MiB = 1024² bytes.
Why does my 1 TB drive show as 931 GB?
The drive maker counts decimal bytes (10¹² bytes) while Windows divides by 1024³ and still writes "GB". 10¹² ÷ 1024³ = 931.32 GiB.
How many MB per second is 100 Mbps?
12.5 MB/s. Network speeds are in bits; divide by 8 to get bytes.
How many MB are in a GB?
1000 MB in decimal units, or 1024 MiB in a GiB in binary units.
Is anything I type sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser with JavaScript and the page has no way to send your numbers anywhere. It also works offline once the page has loaded.
