About CSV to JSON

Parsing uses Papa Parse, a widely used open-source CSV parser, running entirely in your browser.

Is it private?

Yes. CSV to JSON runs entirely in your web browser. What you type is never sent to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send it anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive data. Nothing is stored either: close the page and it is gone. How Nolo works.

Questions and answers

Is my CSV sent to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser and your CSV never leaves your device. The page is not allowed to talk to any other site, so it is safe to use with real data and secrets.

Are numbers converted?

With "Convert numbers and true/false" on, values like 42, -3.5 and 1e3 become JSON numbers written exactly as in the CSV (no rounding), and true/false become booleans. Values with leading zeros, such as ZIP codes like 01234, stay text.

Which delimiters are supported?

Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe, detected automatically or chosen by hand. Quoted fields may contain the delimiter, quotes ("") and line breaks, as in RFC 4180.

What happens with duplicate column names?

They get a suffix (name, name_2) so no value is lost. Empty headers become column1, column2โ€ฆ
