About Compress Video
File size is bitrate ร duration. A video at 4 Mbps uses about 30 MB per minute; at 1.5 Mbps about 11 MB. Lowering the resolution lets a lower bitrate still look sharp, which is why 720p is a good choice for sharing.
Presets set the bitrate from the output resolution and frame rate (bits per pixel). Audio is re-encoded as AAC at 128 kbps (96 kbps on Small).
Is it private?
Yes. Compress Video runs entirely in your web browser using your device's own processor. Your files are never uploaded to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send them anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive files. Results are kept encrypted on your device for 60 minutes in Your files, then deleted automatically, or straight away with Delete all. How Nolo works.
Questions and answers
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside your browser with its built-in media engine (WebCodecs). Your videos never leave your device, and the page works offline once loaded.
How much smaller will my video get?
It depends on the original. Phone videos (often 15 to 50 Mbps) typically shrink by 70 to 95% at 720p Medium. The page shows an estimate from the duration and bitrate before you start, and the real size afterwards.
Which output format do I get?
MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which plays on every phone, computer and app. If your browser cannot encode H.264, Nolo tells you and offers WebM (VP9) instead.
How long does it take?
Encoding uses your device's hardware encoder when available. On a recent laptop a one-minute 1080p video usually takes well under a minute; phones and older computers are slower.
Can I make a video small enough for an email or Discord?
Yes. Choose "Custom bitrate" and lower it until the estimate fits (for example under 25 MB). Lower resolutions keep low bitrates looking sharp.
What if the result is bigger than my original?
That happens when the original is already well compressed. Nolo tells you, so you can keep your original or try a smaller preset or resolution.
