About Video to GIF
Frames are decoded with your browser's WebCodecs engine, scaled to the width you choose, reduced to the best 256 colours each and written by gifenc, a small open-source GIF encoder.
Is it private?
Yes. Video to GIF runs entirely in your web browser using your device's own processor. Your files are never uploaded to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send them anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive files. Results are kept encrypted on your device for 60 minutes in Your files, then deleted automatically, or straight away with Delete all. How Nolo works.
Questions and answers
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside your browser with its built-in media engine (WebCodecs). Your videos never leave your device, and the page works offline once loaded.
Why is the GIF limited to 15 seconds?
GIF stores every frame as a full image with at most 256 colours, so files grow very fast. 15 seconds at 10 fps and 480 px wide is already several megabytes.
Which settings make the smallest GIF?
Fewer frames per second (8 to 10) and a smaller width (320 px). Short clips with little movement compress best.
Why do colours look a bit grainy?
GIF allows 256 colours per frame. Nolo picks the best 256 for each frame, but smooth gradients can still show banding. For full colour, keep the clip as a video.
Does the GIF loop?
Yes, it loops forever by default. You can switch looping off.
