About Compound Interest Calculator
For the starting amount the calculator uses the exact compound formula. Monthly contributions are compounded at i = (1 + r/n)^(n/12) โ 1 per month, so a 5% rate compounded yearly is treated as 5% a year for every euro, dollar or naira you add. Real investments go up and down; a fixed rate is a planning tool, not a promise.
Is it private?
Yes. Compound Interest Calculator runs entirely in your web browser. What you type is never sent to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send it anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive data. Nothing is stored either: close the page and it is gone. How Nolo works.
Questions and answers
What is compound interest?
Interest earned on both your money and the interest already added. Over long periods it grows much faster than simple interest.
How often is interest compounded?
You choose: yearly, every 6 months, quarterly, monthly, daily or continuously. More frequent compounding gives a slightly higher effective annual rate.
When are monthly contributions added?
At the end of each month. They earn interest at the monthly rate equivalent to your chosen compounding.
Does it include tax or inflation?
No. The result is before tax and in today's money terms. To get a rough inflation-adjusted figure, enter the rate minus expected inflation.
Are my numbers sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored on a server or tracked, and the calculator works offline once the page has loaded.
