About Trim Video
Fast mode is a "stream copy": it keeps the original compressed frames and only rewrites the file around them, so a 1 GB video trims in seconds with zero quality loss.
Precise mode decodes and re-encodes the video with your device's hardware encoder (H.264 for MP4/MOV, VP9 for WebM) so the clip starts exactly where you asked.
Is it private?
Yes. Trim Video runs entirely in your web browser using your device's own processor. Your files are never uploaded to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send them anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive files. Results are kept encrypted on your device for 60 minutes in Your files, then deleted automatically, or straight away with Delete all. How Nolo works.
Questions and answers
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside your browser with its built-in media engine (WebCodecs). Your videos never leave your device, and the page works offline once loaded.
Does trimming lose quality?
Not in Fast mode: the video and audio are copied as they are. Precise mode re-encodes the video so it can start on any frame, which takes longer and can lose a little quality.
Why does my Fast clip start slightly earlier than I chose?
Compressed video can only start cleanly on a key frame, which most cameras write every 1 to 5 seconds. In MP4 and MOV, Fast mode keeps the frames from that key frame but marks them as hidden, so players start at your point. WebM and MKV cannot do that, so those clips start at the key frame just before. Use Precise for a frame-exact start.
What format is the trimmed video?
The same container as your video: MP4 stays MP4, MOV stays MOV, WebM stays WebM, MKV stays MKV.
Is there a length or size limit?
Nolo sets none. The video is read from your disk as needed; the clip you keep is built in memory, so very large clips need enough free memory.
Precise mode says my browser cannot encode the video. What now?
Use Fast mode, which needs no encoder, or open the page in the latest Chrome or Edge on a computer, which can encode H.264.
