About Compress Image to KB
The tool runs a binary search over JPEG (MozJPEG) or WebP quality to find the best quality whose file fits the limit. With dimensions on Automatic it first scales very large photos to roughly what the size budget can hold sharply, which is both faster and better looking than squeezing a 12-megapixel photo into 20 KB.
For signatures, crop tightly around the ink first, and for photos crop to the face and shoulders the form asks for. Fewer pixels means more sharpness for the same size.
Is it private?
Yes. Compress Image to KB runs entirely in your web browser using your device's own processor. Your files are never uploaded to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send them anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive files. Results are kept encrypted on your device for 60 minutes in Your files, then deleted automatically, or straight away with Delete all. How Nolo works.
Questions and answers
How do I compress a photo to 50 KB?
Choose the photo, tap 50 KB and press Compress. Nolo tries qualities from high to low (and smaller dimensions if needed) until the file fits under 50 KB.
Why do government forms limit photo size?
Portals that receive millions of applications, such as SSC, IBPS, UPSC and NEET forms in India, cap photos and signatures at sizes like 20โ50 KB or 10โ20 KB to keep uploads fast. Check your form's instructions for both the KB range and the pixel size.
Does 1 KB mean 1000 or 1024 bytes here?
Nolo aims for 1000 bytes per KB, which keeps the file under the limit either way.
What if my form needs a minimum size too?
If a form asks for, say, 20 to 50 KB, set the target to 50; the result is the best quality under 50 KB, which is usually well above 20 KB.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device. Your photos are never uploaded to Nolo or anyone else, and the tool keeps working with the internet switched off.
Can I keep the original width and height?
Yes: set Image dimensions to "Keep original". Only quality is lowered then; if quality alone cannot reach the target, the image is scaled down step by step.
