About Color Picker
Colours are read from the image as your browser displays it, in the sRGB colour space used on the web. Photos with wide-gamut colour profiles (for example Display P3 from recent phones) are converted to sRGB first, so values match what CSS will show.
Is it private?
Yes. Color Picker runs entirely in your web browser using your device's own processor. Your files are never uploaded to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send them anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive files. Results are kept encrypted on your device for 60 minutes in Your files, then deleted automatically, or straight away with Delete all. How Nolo works.
Questions and answers
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device. Your images are never uploaded to Nolo or anyone else, and the tool keeps working with the internet switched off.
How exact is the picked colour?
It is the exact colour of the pixel you tap in the displayed image. Very large images are shown at up to 1600 px, so a single tiny dot can blend with its neighbours.
How are the dominant colours found?
Nolo samples the image and groups similar colours with the median-cut algorithm, then sorts them by how much of the image they cover. Hover a swatch to see its share.
What is the difference between HEX, RGB and HSL?
They describe the same colour. HEX (#1E90FF) and RGB (30, 144, 255) give red, green and blue amounts; HSL gives hue (0โ360ยฐ), saturation and lightness, which is easier to adjust by hand. All three work in CSS.
Can I pick a colour from my screen?
Take a screenshot, then paste it here with Ctrl/โ+V or choose the file.
