Is it private?
Yes. Slug Generator runs entirely in your web browser. What you type is never sent to Nolo or anyone else, and the page cannot send it anywhere: its security policy only allows it to talk to nolotools.com, which has no place to receive data. What is a URL slug?
The readable part of a web address that identifies a page, like "how-to-bake-bread" in example.com/blog/how-to-bake-bread. Good slugs are short, lower case and use hyphens.
How are accents and other alphabets handled?
Accented letters lose their accents (é → e), special letters are spelled out (ß → ss, æ → ae, ø → o, ł → l), and Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Serbian and Greek letters are transliterated to Latin. Turn on German umlauts for ä → ae, ö → oe, ü → ue.
Should I use hyphens or underscores?
Hyphens. Google treats a hyphen as a word separator, but not an underscore, so "red-shoes" is read as two words and "red_shoes" as one.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Slugs are made in your browser and nothing is sent.
